G’day! So, Melbourne winter, right? Bloody miserable. Cold, wet, grey skies that make you want to pack up and bugger off somewhere tropical. Not every day’s a complete write-off, mind you, but enough that you start fantasising about anywhere north of the equator.
Though I’ll admit, it’s brilliant for holing up indoors with the laptop and a cuppa. Throw in a cat or two sprawled across the keyboard and you’ve got yourself a proper writing setup.
Remember last year when I escaped on that cruise? Just a quick five-day jaunt from Sydney to Hobart on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth. Absolute stunner of a ship, that one. Literary cruise too, with famous authors doing their thing. Talks, panels, workshops, the lot. Plus book signings where you could fangirl to your heart’s content.
Had an absolute ball. Loved every minute. So when I was scratching around for something to write about this winter, I thought, why not set a story on a cruise ship? Love, duty, creativity, the whole shebang. Reckon you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed scribbling it down.
Right now I’m in that mad scramble before publication. You know the drill: final edits, sorting out cover art, herding all those bloody cats into line for launch day.
So watch this space, yeah? More coming soon.
For subscribers, you can grab a sneak peek at a few chapters. Come see how I survived this particularly brutal but productive winter. Here are links to my Google Drive. Depending on your configuration, you may be able to read the text directly but if you download a file, you can read as a PDF or eBook.
Feel free to comment and critique the chapters. Suggest improvements, maybe. The plot is pretty well locked in but I have freedom to make small changes.
Oh, and brilliant news: Spring’s finally rocked up in Melbourne! Blossoms everywhere, leaves popping out, days getting longer and actually warm. Everyone’s walking around with stupid grins. Life’s good!
For those paid subscribers who had to put up with the downswing of my mood cycle over winter, I’ve extended your subscriptions by twelve months as a thank you for sticking with me.
